Helpful Tips
Download Tirhal, the local ride-hailing app. It handles cashless taxi booking across Khartoum. Drivers accept cards and mobile wallets. No haggling, no cash fumbling.
Walk to the main dock near Al-Manshiya. Board the Khartoum-Bahri public ferry. Cross the Nile in minutes. Watch the city skyline slide by.
Look for white shared minivans called 'amjad'. They stick to fixed routes along Nile Street. Pay pocket change for budget city travel. Hop on, hop off.
Taxis from Khartoum International Airport run on fixed zone rates. Ask the dispatcher for the exact figure. Confirm the fare before leaving the terminal. No surprises.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unofficial porters at Khartoum International Airport grab bags from the carousel and demand inflated tips. Keep your luggage in sight and politely but firmly refuse unsolicited help.
Taxi touts inside the arrivals hall quote fares several times the metered rate and may claim the official taxi stand is closed. Walk past them to the clearly marked taxi queue outside where fares are regulated.
Currency-exchange booths in the baggage-claim area advertise 'no commission' yet use a deliberately poor rate. Wait until you reach landside banks or ATMs for transparent, market rates.
